Lucille Harpe

St. Marys, KS – Lucille Mary Ann Harpe, 88, of St. Marys, Kansas, formerly of Buckley and Traverse City, Michigan, passed away early Sunday morning, September 19, 2010 in Kansas. Lucille Harpe was born in Provemont (Lake Leelanau), Michigan, on February 5, 1922, to Eugene and Jenny (Plamondon) Lamie. On August 30, 1941, Lucille married Joseph Harpe at St. Marys in Lake Leelanau, Michigan, and together they had six children. In the early 1990’s, they moved to St. Marys, Kansas, where they became members of the Assumption Chapel parish. Lucille became a member of the Third Order and was involved in the League of the Sacred Heart. She was preceded in death by her husband, who died in 2001, shortly after celebrating their 60th wedding anniversary. She is survived by five children and their spouses: Faye Wurm (Arnold) of Kingsley, Michigan; Gerald Harpe (Sharie) of St. Marys, Kansas; Gary Harpe (Mary Ann) of St. Marys, Kansas; Eva Garland (Bill) of St. Marys, Kansas; Ronald Harpe (Kathy) of Emmett, Kansas. In 1968, a sixth child, Joseph Harpe Jr., died in a teenage boating accident off Grand Traverse Bay in Lake Michigan. Also surviving are 30 grandchildren: John Wurm, Dale Wurm, David Wurm, Tonya Bush, Jason Harpe, Jeremy Harpe, Justin Harpe, Alex Harpe, Tammy Salinas, Lori Grumblatt, Daniel Harpe, Tracy Harpe, Richard Harpe, Adam Harpe, Angela Klein, Andrew Harpe, Grace Harpe, Kimberly Butler, Christopher Garland, Josh Garland, Jennifer Cavazos, Benjamin Garland, Bradley Harpe, Katie Harpe, Joseph Harpe, Joshua Harpe, Thomas Harpe, Christina Harpe, William Harpe, and Anthony Harpe. In addition, there are 78 great grandchildren as well as 4 great-great grandchildren. Also surviving is one sister-in-law, Pauline LaBonte, in Traverse City, Michigan. Preceding her in death are two sisters, Mable Rahe and Irene Fleis as well as five brothers: Ben Lamie, Clifford Lamie (died in infancy), Clifford Lamie, Louis Lamie, and Meda Lamie. Requiem Mass will be at 7:00 A.M. Thursday, September 23, 2010 at Assumption Chapel in St. Marys where there will be a Rosary at 5:50 P.M. on Wednesday. Mrs. Harpe will lie in state from 1:00 until 4:00 P.M. Wednesday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests Masses, rosaries, and/or prayers for the repose of her soul.
