Lucille Clark

Maple Hill—Lucille Clark passed away Wednesday, January 5, 2011 at Midland Hospice in Topeka. She was born April 22, 1921 at Elbing, Kansas, the daughter of Robert and Mildred McCauley Corbin. She spent most of her life in the Maple Hill Community. Lucille was a 1939 graduate of Maple Hill High School and was married to John Leander “Tim” Clark on January 24, 1942 at Topeka. He preceded her in death in April 1982. Mrs. Clark was also preceded in death by a brother, George Corbin and two sisters, Vivian Wild and Sarah Justice. Mrs. Clark was very active in the Maple Hill Community. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary for seventy three years and served as president for more than two decades. She was nearly a life member of the Maple Hill Community Congregational Church and served as Sunday School Teacher, Ladies Aid president, was a founding member of the Maple Hill Quilters, sang in the choir for more than fifty years and held several Board of Trustee positions. Mrs. Clark was secretary at the Maple Hill Grade School for 17 years during the 1960s and 1970s. She was the Maple Hill telephone operator for several years with United Telephone and Southwestern Bell Telephone. Mrs. Clark will most be remembered for her unfailing love and generosity to any person in need and for her devotion to family and her God. She is survived by four sons, Nicholas L. Clark of Palm Springs, CA, Gary W. Clark, Maple Hill, twins Stanley J. (Karen) Clark and Steven K. (Brenda) Clark all of Topeka. There are five grandchildren, Nicholas L. Clark II of Suffolk, VA, Amelia M. V. Allendorf of Cincinnati, Joshua James Clark, Timothy John Clark and Katy L. Clark all of Topeka. Mrs. Clark treasured her seven great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister, Joan Frazier, Topeka; brother-in-law, Les Justice, Maple Hill and sister-in-law, Frieda Corbin, Topeka. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January, 8, 2011 at the Maple Hill Community Congregational Church at 10:00 A.M. with the Rev. Dr. John Wallace officiating. Burial will follow in the Maple Hill Cemetery at the Old Stone Church. The family will receive visitors from 4:00 until 8:00 P.M. Friday, January 7, 2011 at Piper Funeral Home in St. Marys.
