Kristin Morford

St. Marys-Kristin Dee Morford, 16, passed away Sunday, July 4, 2010 in her sleep at her home. She was born December 19, 1993 at Topeka, the daughter of William “Bill” and Nancy Flerlage Morford. Kristin had lived all of her life in the St. Marys community and would have been a junior at St. Marys High School this fall. Kristin was an athlete. She was on the high school volleyball, basketball and softball teams. She was selected to the all state 3A softball team this past spring, she was also on the 2A state softball team her freshman year. She had received all league academic award her sophomore year. She had been on the Honor Roll all through school. Kristin had been elected to serve as president of her junior class. She was a member of the St. Marys High School band and choir and was on the school dance team as well as being a member of FBLA and Big Brothers/Big Sisters at the grade school. She had participated in summer softball playing for the Blazers for many years at Ken Berry, and most recently the Heat which plays at Lake Shawnee in Topeka. She had been a lifeguard and swimming instructor at the city pool the past two years. Kristin had participated in gymnastics and had been on the competition team at Catts in Wamego and received many awards and medals. She was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in St. Marys. She was preceded in death by her grandfather Robert “Bob” Flerlage on September 14, 1992 and her grandmother, Patricia “Pat” Morford on May 27, 2004. Kristin is survived by her parents, William “Bill” and Nancy Morford of the home; a brother, Daniel Morford, Lawrence, grandparents, Carol and Howard Heim, Topeka and Rey Morford, St. Marys; along with many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 A.M. Thursday, July 8, 2010 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in St. Marys. Interment will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, St. Marys. Kristin will lie in state after 3:00 P.M. Wednesday, July 7, 2010 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church where a rosary will be recited at 7:00 P.M. Memorial contributions may be made to the St. Marys High School Activity Fund in Kristin’s name and sent in care of Piper Funeral Home, St. Marys.
